If you are not happy with your health insurance plan, then you can get port done like this

If you are not satisfied with your existing health insurance policy or you believe that the benefits from your health plan are not worth the premiums paid on your behalf, you can port it to a different insurer. In this case, the no claim bonus on the existing policy also gets ported.

Health insurance policies can be ported to a different insurer while continuing with the benefits from the existing policy. It is easier to port a health insurance plan for a young person than for a senior one. Companies often do not show willingness to port senior citizen plans, as the waiting period is either reduced or waived altogether and the liability of the new insurance company is already in force.

how to port

The paperwork for porting the policy should begin when the existing policy is in force. It usually takes 45 days to work out the entire porting process. Hence it is advised that you start the porting process at least 45 days before the expiry date of your policy.

To port the policy you need to submit the new policy proposal form and portability form along with some required documents...

A copy of the policy schedule or notice to renew

A declaration that no claim has been made during the policy year

If you have already made a claim, then you have to follow the discharge details, inquiry and report copy

Past medical history for treatment and a copy of the report is also required

After submitting all the required documents from your side the new insurance company will check the details from the existing insurer through the IRDAI portal. After getting the details from the existing insurer, the new insurer can accept the portability offer or make a counter offer to the policyholder. If the insurance company does not give a counter offer to the customer within 15 days from the date of submission of the portability form, the company will have to accept the portability application.
