Mumbai: State Bank of India (SBI) has crossed the 5 lakh crore mark in the home loan business. Bank chairman Dinesh Khara shared the achievement of the bank during a press conference on Wednesday, saying that the real estate and housing business unit of the bank has grown five times in the last 10 years. The assets under management of the unit were Rs 89,000 crore in 2011, which increased to Rs 5 lakh crore in 2021. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 1,94,582 people have been given home loans by the bank till December 2020. The bank has a 34 per cent share in the total home loan of the country and on an average, home loans are given by the bank to a thousand people daily.

In December last year, the bank's home loan business has seen a lot of growth and during this time the bank has made the highest number of home loan examinations till date. 7 lakh crore home loan target by 2024
SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara said that the bank has set a target of acquiring assets under management of 7 lakh crore in FY 2023-24. The bank ventured into the home loan business in 2004. The total portfolio at that time was Rs 17,000 crore. A separate real estate and housing business came into existence in 2012 with a portfolio of Rs 1 lakh crore. 

Speaking on this achievement, Chairman Dinesh Khara said that this achievement is a symbol of the trust of customers towards State Bank and the bank has also personally served its customers by using technology during the Corona period, so that the customers trust and Has strengthened. The bank is going to do many new experiments using the technology, which will make the loan delivery process easier for home loan customers. By improving the retail loan management system, customers will be provided with digital services in private.

He said that home loan is not just a business for the bank but it is a primary subject related to nation building and the bank always sees it connected with the development of the country. SBI will always provide services to the bank's customers in the same way and along with the customers, the home loan of the bank will also touch new heights.
