No formal music education
Was born on 3 March 1926 in Delhi. Ravi had no formal music education, although he had a heartfelt desire to become a playback singer. While working as an electrician, Ravi learned to play harmonium and sing. After this he moved to Mumbai in 1950. In 1950 Ravi decided to shift to Bombay and become a professional singer. Previously Ravi was homeless, lived on the streets and slept at Malad railway station at night.
Gave many hit songs
In 1952, Ravi was discovered by Hemant Kumar, who hired him to sing in the film Vande Mataram from Anand Math. Ravi gave several hit songs and received Filmfare nominations for these films: Chaudhvi Ka Ka Chand (1960), Do Badan (1966), Hamraaz (1967), Ankhen (1968), and Nikah (1982). He won the Filmfare Awards for Gharana (1961) and Khandan (1965).
Superhit bean tune
Let me tell you, Ravi composed the superhit bean tune of the film 'Naagin' which was first used in 'Mera Tan Dole, Mera Mana Dole'.
