The risk of gout is higher in women than in men. Obesity can also be the reason behind this, because the joints of the body are unable to bear much weight and the problem of joint pain and swelling starts.
Another reason behind this is the problem of uric acid in the body. Due to poor lifestyle, it has become common for people to have problems with uric acid. In fact, consuming too much purine causes uric acid to build up in the blood. When uric acid builds up in the blood, it is called hyperuricemia. This can lead to a disease called gout, which causes pain in the joints. Gout is a complex form of arthritis.
How does uric acid increase?
Uric acid is found in our blood and it is a waste product. It is made when the body breaks down chemicals called purines. Things like red meat, kidney beans, okra and arbi contain purines and their consumption increases uric acid. According to experts, when the ability of the kidneys to filter for some reason slows down, then urea turns into uric acid and takes the form of gout. Due to which pain and swelling starts in the joints.
Arthritis patient should keep distance from these things
People suffering from arthritis should avoid eating kidney beans, gram, chickpeas, lentils, mushrooms in vegetables, peas, brinjal, cauliflower, beans, custard apple and chikoo in fruits or should be eaten in very small quantities. Also one should stay away from alcohol. Apart from this, the amount of purine is also high in seafood like cod fish, trout, herring.
At the same time, if you are a patient of gout, then keep the amount of salt as low as possible. Minimize the use of things like tomato, lemon juice, curd, vinegar, kokum, amchur and black pepper powder. Gout patient should avoid putting extra salt in the food.
What should you eat?
Research has shown that reducing the number of calories, weight and intake of purines can reduce the problem of gout to a great extent. Gout patients can include yogurt, skim milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, peanut butter, fats, oils, potatoes, rice in their diet. If you eat eggs and meat such as fish, chicken and red meat, then take them in moderation.
