London. Food made in water containing chloramines can prove to be dangerous for your health, according to a new research, water and salt containing chloramine reacts to produce harmful chemicals that are enough to get you to the hospital. The research team has discovered many new molecules that are completely new and formed as a reaction between the water containing chloramine and the iodized salt present in the food. To clean the water, either chlorine or chloroamines molecules are added to it.

According to a team of researchers, the chlorine or chloramines present in tap water react with the iodine salt to form hypoiodosic acid, which is not normally harmful, but when this acid is cooked, the molecules present in the tap water and other Reacts with organic (bio) substances, then it produces harmful iodized disinfectant (I-DBP).

According to Dr. Tsingru Zhang, Assistant Professor at Hong Kong University, the i-DBP made while cooking is completely new to environmental chemists and engineers. Researchers prepared food with water from different taps at different temperatures and times and mixed with iodized salt to see that I-DBP was produced and studied. Using ultra-modern techniques, they identified 14 new molecules in the food made in this way, which are 50–200 times more dangerous than others.

Dr. Zhang and research team said that people should use chlorine instead of chloramine to clean the water and potassium iodate instead of potassium iodide as salt. Cooking food for a short time at low temperatures also limits the formation of I-DBP. This research has been published in the journal 'Water Research'.
