Coronavirus most challenging situation for govt in 6 yrs, but India fortunate to possess Modi as PM: Rajnath Singh
The ongoing coronavirus crisis is that the most challenging situation that the Narendra Modi government has faced within the past six years, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday.
"Definitely this (Covid-19 pandemic) is that the most challenging situation that we've faced within the past six years," Rajnath Singh, said in an exclusive interview to Aaj Tak.
Rajnath Singh said, "However, India is fortunate that today we've a pacesetter who is capable of overcoming this challenge. Had it not been for PM Modi's well-thought and timely decisions, our situation would are much worse. check out the coronavirus situation within the US."
Speaking about the achievements of the Defence Ministry within the past one year, because the Modi government 2.0, completes one year in office, Rajnath Singh said the creation of the post of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is among the main achievements of his ministry.
"Attempts to enhance coordination among the three services were being made for the past 10-15 years. But our government created the post of CDS at the earliest."
The announcemnet for creation of the post of CDS was made in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech last year. Later in December, General Bipin Rawat became India's first Chief of Defence Staff.
Besides this he said the govt is now also that specialize in making India a defence exporting nation, and not just be limited to a nation that only imports defence equipment.
