National Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday urged the minority community to adopt a "proper family planning policy" for population control with the aim of reducing poverty. The Chief Minister, on the occasion of the completion of 30 days of his government, said that all stakeholders should come forward and support the government to help reduce poverty in the community. The reason for poverty is uncontrolled growth in population.
Sarma said, "Government is the protector of all poor people but it needs the cooperation of minority community to deal with the issue of population growth. Population growth is the main reason for poverty, illiteracy and lack of proper family planning.
The Chief Minister said that the government cannot allow encroachment of temples, sanctuaries and forest lands and the community members have also assured the government that they do not want encroachment on these lands. The Chief Minister requested the community leaders to introspect and motivate the people for population control.
