In Surat, the situation is very bad, cremation of 100 dead bodies taking place every day, the furnaces of the crematorium ghats started melting

National Desk: Metal furnaces have been melting or cracking in some crematoriums in Surat, Gujarat, due to frequent use of increasing bodies in the midst of the Kovid-19 epidemic. Officials said on Tuesday that gas-based furnaces at Kurukshetra crematorium and Ashwini Kumar crematorium have been continuously operating for the last one week to burn the dead bodies, causing problems in maintenance work. Every day 18-19 people have died in Surat city since Kovid-19 in the last two days. Kamlesh Sailor, president of the trust that manages the crematorium, said, "About 20 dead bodies were cremated every day at the Kurukshetra crematorium before the Corona virus epidemic began last year." Now this number has increased. Currently about 100 dead bodies are being cremated every day.

Sailor said that six gas furnaces in the crematorium are burning for 24 hours and the temperature reaches 600 degrees Celsius. He said that due to this reason, iron furnace and chimney have started melting and due to heat, it is cracking. These parts of the machine have to be replaced. The oldest Ashwani Kumar crematorium in Surat is facing similar problems and its management has decided to increase the number of wooden pyres to burn the dead bodies due to issues related to the maintenance of gas furnaces. "We operate 10 gas furnaces," said Prashant Kabarawala, the manager of the crematorium. Apart from this, dead bodies are cremated at three places with sticks.

Earlier, 30 dead bodies were cremated every day. Now 90-95 dead bodies are being cremated. He said that due to continuous burning of furnaces, the structure of some of them melted. Some pipes and chimneys were also broken due to extreme temperatures. Kabrawala said, recently two out of four furnaces were fitted with anti-heat bricks, which have been closed for some time. Our engineers who do maintenance work come to the crematorium every day and overcome problems. He said that due to continuous difficulties in the work related to maintenance, it has been decided to arrange two places and wooden pyre.
