Union Home Minister Amit Shah's proposed visit to West Bengal on November 5 has been postponed for the time being, as he was to attend the Eastern Zonal Council meeting. A top official gave this information here. The official said that the state government has been informed about this through a letter received from the Union Home Ministry, but no new date has been given regarding the meeting. He said the reason behind the postponement of the tour has not been clarified.

The official told PTI-language, "The proposed meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council has been postponed for the time being. Now it will be conducted on some other date. The Union Home Minister is not coming to the city next week. We have no idea why his visit has been postponed,” he said, adding that no other date has been given for the meeting. Shah is the chairman of the regional council and during this meeting, he was scheduled to meet the chief ministers of Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Sikkim to discuss various issues, especially those related to the inter-state border. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the vice-chairman of the Eastern Zonal Council.
