Prayagraj: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MP Shyama Charan Gupta died late Friday during treatment due to corona infection. He was 76. Due to his death, a wave of mourning has started in the family, business and political circles. Shyam Group General Manager Manoj Aggarwal confirmed the demise. He said that on March 31, his report was Corona positive. After the report, Gupta was admitted to the Kovid ward of Rani Nehru Hospital as Prayagraj. He was admitted to Max Hospital in Delhi for not improving health. He died of cardiac arrest at 12 o'clock late in the course of treatment.
Became mayor of Allahabad by contesting elections from BJP in 1989
The former MP's wife Jamunotri Devi and son Vidup Agarhari are also Corona infected, he is a home quarantine. Gupta is survived by wife Jamunotri Gupta, two sons Vidup Agarhari and Vibhav Agarhari and a daughter Venu Agarhari Dhingra. Shyama Charan Gupta contested her first election as an independent candidate from Banda in 1984, but lost to Bhisan Dev Dubey of Congress. Became mayor of Allahabad after contesting elections from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1989. In the year 1991, he contested elections from Allahabad Parliamentary constituency on Lotus trail, but he did not get success.
Elected MP from Banda parliamentary constituency on SP ticket in 2004
In the year 1996, he contested against Murali Manohar Joshi on SP ticket but lost. 1999 became the SP candidate from Banda parliamentary constituency but also suffered defeat here. In the year 2002 city Southern Legislative Assembly contested against SP against Kesri Nath Tripathi. Then in 2004, he was elected as an MP from Banda parliamentary constituency on a SP ticket. In 2009, SP fielded Phoolpar but lost to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Kapil Muni Karwaria.
Was very affluent and warm-hearted
In 2014, he was elected as an MP by winning overwhelmingly by defeating Revati Raman Singh of Samajwadi Party from Allahabad Parliamentary constituency. He was estranged from party leaders only on the 2019 Lok Sabha ticket. After that there was an opportunity for a ticket from Samajwadi Party but could not get victory. He was elected once from the SP in 2004 and once from the BJP in 2014. SP Bahadur Madhur, SP spokesperson of Shyam Charan Gupta, who was the election media in-charge of the 2009 elections, has told that he was rich in affable and gentle personality.
