National Desk: Kerala has once again proved that the silver screen is not enough to win the election. Many such celebrities tried their hand in the state assembly elections held on April 6, but when the results came on Sunday, most of them were unsuccessful, while some managed to leave their mark. Film actors Mukesh and KB Ganesh contested and won on the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) ticket, while noted artist Mani C Kappan won on the United Democratic Front (UDF) ticket. Popular singer Dalima Jojo won as an LDF candidate. Apart from these, all the actors and actors who tried their hand in the electoral battle had to face it. These include Suresh Gopi, noted comedian Dharmajan Bolgatti, actress Priyanka Anoop, artist Krishnakumar and television actor Vivek Gopan.
Mukesh, son of the late O Madhyavan, a renowned artist in the theater world, won from Kollam assembly seat while KB Ganesh won from Pathanapuram. Ganesh defeated Jyothikumar Chamkala of his nearest rival Congress by a margin of 14,000 votes. BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Suresh Gopi tried his luck from Thrissur but finished third. However, he got a lot of votes in the initial stages and eventually got respectable support, but he was not enough to win.
In Thiruvananthapuram seat, the BJP had placed a bet on the famous television star G. Krishnakumar, but he could not do any special charisma and finished third. Bolgatti tried his luck with Baluseri as a Congress candidate, but he too was disappointed. He finished second. He was defeated by Left leader KM Sachin Dev. Priyanka Anoop and Vivek Gopan suffered defeats in Aroor and Chavara respectively. Pala MLA and producer and actor Mani C Kappan left LDF and joined UDF camp. He defeated Kerala Congress (M) chief Jose K. Mani. Kappan has acted in more than 25 films and has been the producer of about 12 films. In the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu, where actors have made a special mark in politics, unlike in Kerala, artists have rarely got electoral success.
