Top Hizbul commander trapped in Kashmir encounter, terrorist killed as gunbattle continues in Awantipora
A joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Beighpora in Awantipora of Kashmir on Wednesday morning. A top Hizbul Mujahideen commander has been trapped within the encounter.
In another encounter in Pulwama, an unidentified terrorist has been killed.
According to reports, a terrorist has been killed within the gunbattle in in Sharshali village of Pulwama. One AK-56 rifle has been recovered from the terrorist killed within the encounter, said police.
In Awantipora, a senior policeman has confirmed the exchange of fireside between forces and militants. As per the sources 2-3 militants are believed to be trapped inside, including top Hizbul commander Reyaz Naikoo.
Civilians from around 12 to fifteen houses are evacuated.
After a lengthy search operation, a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Beighpora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has said within the third operation in Beighpora, a top commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen has been trapped inside a building and exchange of fireside is on.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot in Awantipora, militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter.
This is the second such encounter in Awantipora within the span of eight hours.
The gunbattle in Awantipora is that the third such operation launched on Tuesday night after the forces received specific inputs. Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel have said, “The gunbattle might continue further during the day till we clear the target . Senior officers monitoring things since last night.”
