'Two-finger test' for rape victims equates to repeated torture, SC expresses displeasure

The Supreme Court has expressed deep displeasure over the two-finger test of rape victims. Hearing a case, the top court has said that the two-finger test is another blow to rape victims. The court said, the person who conducts the two-finger test in rape cases will be guilty of misconduct. Along with this, the court also issued directions to remove this test from the study material in medical colleges.

Two-finger test based on patriarchal thinking
The Supreme Court has said that the two-finger test is based on the patriarchal view that a sexually active woman cannot be raped. Expressing displeasure over the test, Justice DY Chandrachud said, "Two-finger test is not important for proof of the sexual history of the victim."

Sentenced to life imprisonment to the accused
Hearing a case, the court has overturned the order of the High Court to acquit the accused. The Supreme Court has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment in this case. In fact, in 2013, the Supreme Court held the two-finger test to be unconstitutional.
