Farrukhabad: Non-bailable warrants have been issued by the CJM Court against Louis Khurshid, wife of former External Affairs Minister and Secretary Athar Farooqui alias Mohammad Athar, Project Director of Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. In 2010, this institution had received an amount of 71.50 lakh from the then central government. With this amount, the trust had claimed to distribute equipment to the differently-abled in 16 districts including Farrukhabad. However, about seven years back the institution got embroiled in controversies and was blacklisted. Aam Aadmi Party President Arvind Kejriwal raised the issue of handicapped equipment scam in 2014 and came to Farrukhabad and held a huge rally. A case of forgery and fraud is going on against them.

Let us inform that Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust had received Rs 71.50 lakh from the Government of India on 30 March 2010 for distributing equipment to the differently-abled. Out of this, equipments were to be distributed to the differently-abled by setting up a camp in Farrukhabad from four lakhs. The order was given to the project director and secretary to give the utilization certificate of this amount in three months. With this, 10 percent of the disabled were to be verified by the district level committee and the report was to be sent to the Government of India. The list of 32 beneficiaries along with the verification report was sent to the Government of India on 3 June 2010. On the orders of the Government of India, the State Government handed over its investigation to the Economic Offenses Research Organization, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. Inspector Ramshankar Yadav conducted the investigation. It was found that in the list verification, the seal of the designation of Tehsildar Kayamganj and CMO turned out to be fake. No camp was organized at Kayamganj on 29 May 2010. Nor were equipments distributed to the handicapped.

In this case, Ramshankar Yadav had lodged an FIR on 10 June 2017 in Kayamganj Kotwali. The research organization's investigator had filed a chargesheet in the CJM Court on December 30, 2019 against Lewis Khurshid, wife of former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, and Athar Farooqui, secretary of the Trust. Summons were issued to the accused from the court. The Chief Judicial Magistrate has issued non-bailable warrants against both the accused for not appearing in the court. Now the next hearing of the case will be on 16 August 2021.
