Bijnor: Another truth of the Uttar Pradesh Police, which is in the news every day for its exploits, has come to the fore. In fact, in Bijnor's case of absconding lovers, a family allegedly attempted suicide on Thursday after being disturbed by police harassment.
Police said that Dharampal (55), his wife Jagwati (47) and daughter Ravita (18), residents of Narayanpur village of police station Mandawar, consumed some poisonous substance this morning. All three were first taken to the district hospital from where the doctor referred them to Meerut in view of their critical condition. Police said that about a week ago, Dharampal's son ran away from home with a 17-year-old minor girl. A case has been registered in this regard and its investigation is going on. It is alleged that the police was continuously harassing Dharampal's family regarding this matter, due to which he tried to commit suicide.
At the same time, Superintendent of Police Dharamvir Singh denied the allegation and said that the police never called Dharampal or his family to the police station and did not harass them. He told that the family has tried to commit suicide after being socially disturbed due to stigma in the panchayat of the fraternity in the village. He said that the matter is being investigated and action will be taken based on that.
